TRON: LEGACY
5 out of 5 stars
i know… i know… ANOTHER jeff bridges movie?!? but, i’ve been wanting to see this for a very LONG time… and, the verdict? AWESOME, SPECTACULAR, VISUALLY STUNNING!!! ;)
so, why am i raving about this so much? yes, disney does have a tendency of fucking up movies lately (with the exception of pixar and pirates of the caribbean 1, of course), but this “re-vamp” of the classic tron movie (1982) got some really cool treatment i.e. great visual effects and a good adventure storyline. the movie starts with a young jeff bridges AKA kevin flynn from the original tron movie telling his story about tron, CLU, and the master control program to his young son, sam. kevin flynn suddenly disappears from the face of the earth, leaving his software company to his son and business partner, alan. (bruce boxleitner from the original tron movie) 20some years pass… sam is all grown up (played by hottie garrett hedlund), and pulls his annual prank on the board of directors of his father’s software company, encom. this leads to alan showing up at his garage apartment, telling him that he received a page from his father’s old telephone number at the arcade. (kevin flynn also owned an arcade) this obviously makes sam wander into the arcade, only to find his father’s dusty workspace hidden below the arcade. he enters in some code to access the computer, then he’s plunged into what’s called “the grid”, designed by kevin flynn. so, what is the grid? it’s basically like the matrix, except almost all of the inhabitants of the grid are computer programs. (they’re like sims, kindof) the humans who enter this world are called users, and yes, sam is kind of their god/almighty creator. anyway, sam is then forced into “the games”, and is almost killed by CLU, short for codified likeness identity, programmed to create the perfect world inside this grid. as you learn, CLU got drunk of this power, and banished kevin, which prevented him from returning back to the real world… so, how are sam and kevin going to get back home? let’s just say there’s a portal and CLU doesn’t want them to leave… ;)
this was a great continuation of the original tron movie! talk about a major re-vamp… this was a FACE LIFT. you can tell disney poured major moolah into this production, but it’s done VERY WELL and with class. expect breathtaking visuals because there are a lot of good moments that make this movie worthwhile… GREAT casting for obvious reasons: the flynns, quorra (olivia wilde), and my personal favorite: michael sheen AKA castor, the crazy club owner. then, the icing on the cake…the daft punk soundtrack! OMG, if you’re into computers, virtual worlds, gaming, or even animation, you WILL love this movie. and, that’s me telling you after watching the regular version. think of what this shit’s like on blueray. SICK, that’s what… ;)
