THE SWITCH
2 out of 5 stars

jennifer aniston and jason bateman team up in this rom-com (but is it, really?) about sperm donation and fathering a child that “might” be yours… if only you could remember what happened the night of your BFF’s “i’m getting pregnant” party? :P

this movie should be retitled as “why a straight guy can’t be a girl’s BFF” because OBVIOUSLY HE’S GOING TO FALL IN LOVE WITH YOU. with that said… :P the plot: wally mars (bateman) is BFF’s with a woman named kassie (aniston), who wants to have a baby via sperm donation/artifical insemination. her biological clock is ticking, so she decides to have a baby without going through the motions of finding mr. right. wally has a big problem with that for some reason i.e. he’s in love with her, but just doesn’t know it yet… anyway, kassie goes through with her plan, finds a donor named roland (hottir/mr. america patrick wilson), and even throws a “i’m getting pregnant” party to kick things off! well, here comes the curveball because wally gets stupid-drunk, and accidentially replaces his “seed” with roland’s. LOL, let’s just say it involves diane sawyer, a viking, and too much alcohol… :P well…fast forward 7 years later, wally meets up with kassie and her son sebastian at a chinatown restaurant, and he’s almost a carbon copy of wally. now only if wally can remember that fateful night, right?

mindyou, this is NOT a rom com, but more of a rom drama. there are a lot of dramatic moments than funny, which is a shame because jason bateman is a pretty funny guy. jeff goldblum steals every scene he’s in as the boss/friend of wally’s and so does juliette lewis, whose always some sort of hippie chick on drugs in every movie she’s in? the lil’ kid who plays sebastian is actually really cute, but boy, he is a STRANGE child… bateman and aniston have good chemistry, which makes this tolerable. is it good? meh… i think it’s one of those movies where if you like it, it means you’ve got a soft spot for happy endings. ;)
